


Soreng is a small town situated in west Sikkim. Its elevation is 5000 ft from the sea level almost surrounded by the dense forest. Its population is approximately 50,000 (fifty thousand). In the north of Soreng is dense forest and big hills like Bassey, JhandiDara, ChuliDara, DurpinDara, BhirDara, GumpaDara, PhumseybongDara which are all natural view points. We have no artificial view at Soreng. Among above mentioned hills Varsey is famous for Rododendrum, Chimal and herbal plants. There is a forest banglow for staying visitors. Soreng is in the centre of Darjeeling, Gangtok, Namchi and Pelling. Tin Simana for Nepal, West Bengal and Sikkim is 40 to 50 km away from Soreng. Green vegetation of the area is main attraction. Life style of to residents are agriculture and flouriculture. For Budhist faith there are fine six numbers old gumpas in and around of Soreng. Manders are also there.Mostly, inhabitants of the area are tribles. Domestic animal are Yak, Sheep, Goat, Cows, Pigs etc. Wild animals like Tigers, Leopards, Black Bear, Deer, Wild Rabbits, Porcupine, Small monkey, Fox, Squirrels , Wild pig etc. Birdsspioious- various hill type birds.
In the opposite of Soreng there is Tiger Hill in Darjeeling. From JhandiDara which is in the walk able distance can be seen sun rising.
Two big streams named Rangbhang and Ringyang are in the southern boundary of the area.Asala and Manpaha can be found in the said streams. Now a day it is available in the villages also because the villagers storted to cultivate in their field also. Big fisheries andboating ponds are there for visitors.
Central Bank with net banking system and state bank, Sixco Bank with ATM facility have been running.
Govt. hospital is also there. Sub-Divisional office is situated at heart of Soreng, one university and one B.Ed College is also running in the Soreng.
