It lies in the western part of sikkim at a height of 5500 ft. It’s a Base Camp for the Barsey Rhododendron Wild Life Sanctuary with the rich flora and fauna. It was declared on 2nd Oct2003. It has preserved its rich culture and tradition, inspite of mixed society from hills plain seven in the Stage of modernization. The name of many places in this region commemorate saint who came to meditate here , forest are still preserved as a sacred groves or Devithans, and are a source of life giving water and home to aninals and birds which are aboundant here.
The honey cliff is 1 Km. from the soreng bazaar. This place is so called because of the beehives that hang from the different corners of the rock. UrgenTsholingGumpa: this Gumpa was cinstructes with the financial help of local community and the government. Prayers are often held during special occasion. On its right hand side there is a big Stupa with a Chakra (prayer wheel) below it.
This waterfall lies in between Singling and phuncheybong just above the soreng – Kaluk Road. It is formed by the forrential flow of the changay stream. It originates dry season when the water level decreases considerably duringthe monsoon the current of the waterfall falls from a height of 10ft. forming a rainbow at the bottom. It is at a walkable distance from the main road and there is a footpath connecting the main road to this spot.
Four or five decades ago team of British surveyors almost completed their survey work of every top hill located at the four Districts of Sikkim. At the end, theywere amazed to find the highest hill of the west District here. So, they hoisted a flag here and viewed, from here, all the fidges that they had already surveyed. Hence this hill called Jhandi (flag) dara (altitude: 2850 mts. /9504ft.). From here one can see a more beautiful and clear view of the rising sun than from tiger Hill (Darjeeling), as mt.kanchenjunga looks more beautiful when the first rays of sunlight touches it. Besides this one can enjoy the clear view of other sub – mountain touching the bounderies of Sikkim, Darjeeling. Kalimpong, Namchi, Pelling, Ravangla and many other places.
Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary : The Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary lies at an altitude of 2200 Mts, spereading over 104sq.kms across the razor sharp Singalila(mountain range) which from the inter National border with Nepal.Towards the south of the sanctuary, the RambangKhola(river) seperates Sikkim from West Bengal. There are three entry points: Soreng, Hilley and Dentam. Tourists generally prefer Soreng and Hilley since it is a approachable by road. The bridle pathe from Hilley to Barsey already exists and is a favorite amongst tourists especially during the Rhodonderon flowering season. Some varieties of rhododendron found here include arboreum, grandi, hodgsomi, barbarium, companu- Latum, cinnabarium, falconeri, etc.
This Cultural Center is located at Tharpa 15 Km from Soreng. It’s only the ethamic museum for the Limbo tribes in the world still SiriJangaYakthangSakthimphojombo (cultural society) observe a cultural programe festival every year on 23rd August.
It is the nearest view point at south east top hill of soreng with panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, rising sun for west, North and South District of Sikkim, the hills of Darjeeling, the Durga Devi cave on the cliff.
